Faux is the Way to Go: Q&A with Something Borrowed Blooms

Lauren Bercier, now a board advisor for Catalyst Bank, is also the CEO and co-founder of Something Borrowed Blooms—a company changing the way couples think about wedding flowers. Alongside co-founder Laken Swan, they’ve built a business that offers stunning, sustainable alternatives to traditional floral arrangements.
Let’s be honest: wedding flowers are gorgeous… but expensive. And after just one day of celebration, they’re usually tossed. That’s where Something Borrowed Blooms (SBBlooms) steps in. Their solution? Rentable, premium-quality silk floral arrangements that look just like the real thing—but are more affordable, reusable, and eco-conscious.
Stylish. Realistic. Budget-friendly. Sustainable. It’s floral design that’s both smart and stunning.
Fresh off a record-breaking quarter, we sat down with the founders to hear more about their journey—where the company is now, how they’re growing, and what’s next in the booming world of wedding decor.
Interestingly, the concept didn’t begin with florals. From day one, Lauren and Laken were focused on building a business around the circular economy—a model that prioritizes reuse and sustainability. One of their first ideas? A baby clothing rental service. But the logistics of laundering and turnover made that idea less appealing. Then came the light bulb moment: weddings. Flowers. Waste. Opportunity.
Today, with a team of 35 and a thriving customer base, SBBlooms is making waves—and redefining what wedding luxury can look like.
Because faux? It’s not just a trend. It’s the future.
For founders out there, what is some advice that you have for startups going into a investor pitch?
Tell YOUR story! Don’t get too caught up in the perfect pitch deck, or mimicking Business Development Plan (BDP) slides. Tell your story, show your passion, and why you’re the right person to invest into. And do it clearly and concisely.
What needs are you seeing set by younger generations when it comes to weddings?
Our business model was developed around millennial and gen z couples and we’re seeing things play out just as we anticipated. Less focus on cost and increased attention on intentional spending and less waste. As the Amazon mentality further penetrates consumers, we see shorter lead times and more last minute orders.
How did you navigate getting your first round of funding? And how did you celebrate?
Our first round of funding was a relatively small angel investment primarily funded by the Acadiana area. Networking was key to our success in this round! And we celebrated by finally compensating ourselves with a salary and being promoted to full-time employees dedicating all our time and attention to growing the business.
Going on 10 years in business! How will you be celebrating? Having an event filled with floral arrangements?
Yes, so exciting and hard to believe it’s been 10 years! We’re planning on celebrating internally with our team first in October. We’re planning for a week long full of celebrations and employee fun. We plan to celebrate publicly in early 2026, coinciding with the launch of our brand new website! We’ll also have some fun ways to celebrate with our customers and industry partners at that time.
Flowers are such a focal point for a wedding that I assume when couples get their photos back, your flowers are front and center. Do you just have a wall of thank you cards from couples?
Yes, we actually do get a lot of really sweet thank you notes and we pin them up on the refrigerator in the kitchen at SBB for all of our team to see!
As a person that doesn’t have a design eye, how much guidance do you offer to couples purchasing flowers regarding arranging them in the best way possible for their event? Do you do consults?
Our team does a great job at creating content to educate those customers on how to use our products to bring their visions to life! If a customer wants more direct involvement, we offer styling sessions where our floral stylists meet (virtually or in-person) to show products and give insight on how to create the desired look using SBBlooms!
Are there plans to expand into other markets/products?
Currently, about 10% of our business is for non-wedding events. This business is happening organically, but we know there is a ton of opportunity in the events industry at large — think corporate, non-profits, private events. We can leverage our existing inventory to serve those customers and expand into larger markets.

What are some wedding trends that you’re seeing?
One of the biggest wedding trends we’re seeing right
now is the rise of larger-than-life florals—not just for the ceremony or reception, but as immersive installations woven through the entire wedding week. From meadow-style aisles and floral ceilings to dramatic entryways and sculptural moments around cakes or tables, couples are using flowers to transform every touchpoint: welcome parties, showers, rehearsal dinners, and more.
This trend exists largely because of social media and influencer culture. Couples want experiences that are not only memorable in person but also highly shareable online. It’s a perfect opportunity for Something Borrowed Blooms to create a mainstream trend, making these statement florals accessible.
Do you have a new floral arrangement set coming out soon?
With two new collections in the works that will be launching in early 2026!

As Something Borrowed Blooms approaches its 10-year milestone, it’s clear that Lauren Bercier, Laken Swan, and their growing team aren’t just following trends—they’re shaping them. With sustainability at the core, a finger on the pulse of modern couples, and exciting expansions on the horizon, SBBlooms is proving that faux florals can be both stunning and smart. From their kitchen fridge lined with heartfelt thank-you notes to nationwide recognition as pioneers in the circular wedding economy, their story is a reminder that innovation doesn’t always mean reinventing the wheel—it just means rethinking what we throw away. And in this case? Faux really is the way to go.
