Based in Raceland, LA, Community Bancorp, Inc. was an FDIC insured, state-chartered commercial bank offering depository, consumer, and commercial loan products. Historically specializing in oil and gas companies and commercial real estate, Community Bank was acquired by a consortium of oil and gas service company owners in 1978, including Harold Callais, who subsequently bought 80% of the bank’s stock.
Community Bancorp became a multibank holding company when it purchased (and then later sold) American Bank of Welsh in the 1990s and then merged with the Callais family owned Greater Baton Rouge-based United Community Bancshares in 2014. The combined entity took on the name of United Community Bank. United Community Bank today manages approximately $600m in assets and operates 10 branches across Southeastern Louisiana.
